TARA
SIMONCIC
Assistant Conductor
Joining
the Greenwich Symphony as Assistant Conductor in
2010, Tara Simoncic is in the forefront of young
American conductors. In addition to her new position
with the Greenwich Symphony, Ms. Simoncic has
recently been appointed Assistant Conductor of the
Harrisburg Symphony as well as the Music Director of
the Harrisburg Symphony Youth Orchestra.
Beginning her conducting career as Apprentice
Conductor with the Knoxville Symphony in 1997, Ms.
Simoncic has since served as Music Director of the
Norwalk Youth Symphony (CT), Music Director of the
Adelphi Chamber Orchestra (NJ), Conductor of the
Flexible Orchestra (NYC), and Assistant Conductor of
the Martha Graham Dance Company (NYC). An active
guest conductor, Ms. Simoncic has worked with the
New Amsterdam, Kingsborough, and Northshore Symphony
Orchestras as well as the Brooklyn Philharmonic. She
has served as a cover conductor at the Manhattan
School of Music where she previously studied. Her
passion for working with young people led her to
guest conduct the Kinhaven Music School in (VT), the
Omaha Youth Symphony, and the Northern Connecticut
Regional High School Honors Orchestra.
Ms. Simoncic began studying trumpet at the age of 6.
She holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Trumpet
Performance from the New England Conservatory, a
Master of Music degree in Orchestral Conducting from
Northwestern University, and a Professional Studies
Diploma in Orchestral Conducting from The Manhattan
School of Music. She has studied conducting in
Russia, England, and the Czech Republic and her
teachers include: David Gilbert, George Hurst,
Zdenec Macal, George Manahan, Victor Yampolsky, and
Kirk Trevor.
Most recently, Ms. Simoncic received the Bruno
Walter Scholarship to study conducting with Marin
Alsop and Gustav Meier at the Cabrillo Festival of
Contemporary Music in Santa Cruz, CA. |
